The historical centre of tortoreto is made up of three well-defined areas, called Terravecchia, Terranova and Borgo. Terravecchia is the oldest and highest part of the town and houses the Castle, the Clock Tower, the Augustinian Convent and the church of S. Agostino, former church of Sant'Eufemia.In the church there is one of the hidden treasures of the artistic heritage of Abruzzo. It is the thirteenth-century canvas of the painter MattiaPreti. The scenographic painting, an oil on canvas, represents Saint Augustine who receives the baptism from Saint Ambrose bishop of Milan.
